Cuchara Mountain Park is seeking skilled, certified, and experienced individuals to join our professional Ski Patrol team. As the cornerstone of Mountain Safety and Rescue operations, you will be responsible for hazard mitigation, providing advanced Emergency Medical Care, and conducting rescue and transport services on all resort terrain. This role requires an Intermediate to Expert Skier/Rider, strong technical skills, and unwavering composure under pressure in challenging alpine environments.
Emergency Medical and Patient Care:
Provide prompt and appropriate Emergency Medical Care and stabilization to injured guests and employees on the mountain.
Efficiently and safely package patients and transport them using specialized Toboggan Handling techniques across varied terrain and in all weather conditions.
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation for all incidents, injuries, and accident investigations.
Mountain Safety and Risk Management:
Conduct daily opening and closing procedures, including checking and marking all trails, lifts, and resort boundaries for hazards.
Enforce the Skier Responsibility Code and resort policies by warning or removing reckless individuals to promote overall Ski Safety.
Participate in Avalanche Control efforts, including route checking, snow pit analysis, and the safe use of explosives (age/certification dependent).
Technical Rescue and Operations:
Demonstrate proficiency in Aerial Lift Evacuation and Rope Rescue techniques.
Perform Search and Rescue operations for lost persons or equipment both on and off-piste.
Safely operate snowmobiles and other off-road vehicles for access and transport.
Intermediate to Expert Skier/Rider ability: Must be competent on all terrain (steep, variable, icy, deep powder) while carrying medical and rescue equipment and effectively controlling a toboggan (pass/test required).
High level of physical fitness, strength, and stamina for sustained work in adverse weather.
Strong decision-making skills and the ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress emergency situations.
Medical Certifications:
Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (Basic or higher)
Current CPR Certification (Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer level).
Avalanche Safety certification (e.g., AvSAR, Avalanche Level 1 or higher).
Valid State Driver's License.
